OBJECTIVES:

This is a three-credit university-required junior year writing course designed with three primary objectives in mind:

  • To promote the acquisition of skills and techniques to improve not only writing, but also the motivation to write, and
  • To help students develop effective writing skills across a variety of writing types in the context of the discipline.

TEXTS:

Students should have a writing reference book, such as A Writer’s Reference by Diana Hacker ( St. Martin ’s Press) or The Little English Handbook, by Corbett (Wiley Press). Additionally, the classic Elements of Style by Strunk and White (MacMillan) is recommended for use and purchase.
