MFA Graduate Block: Fall 2006
TTH 4:40 - 6:50 pm
FAC/ Graduate Studio Bdlg.
This semester the Graduate Block will be taught by Professor Dale Schlappi and myself. The course will be organized in the following way:
Large group meetings (All first and second year MFA's with Coblyn/ Schlappi)
Group 1 & 2 meetings (1/2 Coblyn and 1/2 Schlappi)
Individual 30 minute critiques
The MFA Graduate Block is grounded in the investigation of image and object making. This course will foster a diversity of practice and interpretation, innovation, and experimentation. One of the main goals of this course is to begin the preparation for your thesis year as well as the pursuit of a professional career as a creative artist. The reality of this requires an understanding and utilization of technology in the form of a web portfolio. Equally as important is the ability to present your creative works by using PowerPoint. These have become the essential tools of 21st century artists. To this end every member of the course will create a complete and functioning website and Power Point presentation.
Works are viewed and discussed in both group or individual critiques, in relation to current practices, as well as in terms of the current cultural/social environment.
